La Crosse (continued)

For Thanksgiving vacation that year we flew to New Orleans and enjoyed 3 days of eating and sightseeing. Winter and snow came early to this deep valley area along the Mississippi River where La Crosse is located. On Sunday night when we got back to the La Crosse airport, there was a foot of snow on the ground and our car behind a large snow bank that was created when they plowed the parking lot.

That’s when we decided to trade in Nancy’s Capri for what turned out to be a forerunner of the SUV, which eventually became very popular. It was a four-wheel drive Dodge Ramcharger.

The Computer Science Department Chairman was into cross-country skiing and talked us into renting skis and trying it. He took us to an area where there were groomed trails for cross-country skiing. We were only out for about an hour but I was bushed. I fell asleep in the car on the way back to town. However, we enjoyed it so much that we then bought our own skies.
